Weak Thoughts

                single channel video, code, 2015

This piece is randomly assembled with code. The images, sounds, overlays and text all are assembled in a near random way - The text is completely written and controlled by code as well. The idea of removing any linear storytelling from this process was central to the piece, conceptually. My hand is evident in the work (certainly in the imagery and sound) but once the sequence is initiated I have no influence -  I only have the ability to record and curate moments from the random sequence rather than form and edit its progression before viewing. The ability to disassociate from a story and to let it become a free-form narrative is something that I find exciting - particularly in the disparity between images and text and the relationships that it forces the viewer to recreate. It affirms much of what was a huge movement of structuralist narrative theory.

The piece is meant to be walked into at any point - to be viewed for 30 seconds or 30 minutes
